About the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) promotes workplace health and safety, and provides a workers compensation system for the employers and workers of Ontario.
Workplace insurance entitles you to a range of benefits. The benefit most people are familiar with is the replacement of earnings you lose while disabled by workplace illness or injury (benefit for loss of earnings), but a number of other WSIB benefits are available to employees.
About the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Disability Benefit
The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability benefit is available to people who have made enough contributions to the CPP, and whose disability prevents them from working at any job on a regular basis. The disability must be long lasting or likely to result in death. The CPP disability benefit is administered by Service Canada on behalf of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC). It may take as long as three months for you to find out if your application for a disability benefit has been accepted. This time frame is much shorter for terminally ill applicants. If your application for a CPP disability benefit is not granted, there are opportunities for you to have your application reviewed or reconsidered.
